The historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a mesmerizing labyrinth of colonial churches, plazas, and charming cobblestone streets. You can spend hours wandering through the Plaza Grande, admiring the Presidential Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral, and marveling at the intricate gold leaf inside San Francisco Church. The views from El Panecillo, topped by the iconic winged Virgin Mary statue, offers a breathtaking panorama of the city nestled between volcanoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cotopaxi Day Tour &#8211; one day expedition to the highest active volcano. Hike around 2 hours or more on the volcanic ash settled along Cotopaxi\u2019s base to the refuge located at 4,800 m for a great view of the impressive Cotopaxi volcano and hike to its glacier, then you can continue with a visit to the Limpiopungo Lake and its surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otavalo Market- You can visit the oldest traditional indigenous market in South America, where you can put in practice bargaining skills while buying souvenirs like tapestry, handicrafts and other good deals as well as interacting with local culture, being a trade market which dates 1500 years ago. The Otavalo culture is famous all around the world for their folk music, weaving and trading products from other regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quilotoa Lake- Prepare for a couple of hours drive that will take you to a unique and varied indigenous area, this traditional Andean scenery will show the mixture of the cultural tradition with the richness of the &#8220;paramos&#8221;, making this a great attraction. In the area you will find native indigenous communities, which have found a way to recreate their traditions, and customs by the art of painting with a singular technique on the skin of the sheep, these artists are known as the Tigua painters. You will arrive to the rim of the Quilotoa crater, an impressive volcanic lake located at 3800m\/12600ft, where its rim offers stunning views of some of the highest volcanoes in the Andean highlands and you can hike down to the lake or around the rim of the crater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Antisana National Park- This drive will take you to high paramo, remote habitat of the Andean Condor and home for many other highland wildlife such as the white tail deer. It divides the Amazon moorlands from the Andean range. The hike takes 3 to 4 hours to gain altitude to find yourself at the base of the impressive glacier of the Antisana snow peaked mountain walking along paramo grasslands, ancient lava flows and Mica lake.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mindo Cloudforest &#8211; A two-hour drive takes you to one of the most famous birdwatching village hidden in a valley at the base of Pichincha Volcano. There are many trails leading to crystal waterfalls through subtropical terrain and get a close look to humming birds and butterflies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Papallacta Thermal Hot Springs &#8211; Along the two-hour drive you have stunning views of the entrance of the Amazon basis passing through the highlands, where you could probably see an Andean Spectacle Bear walking near the highway.
