7-Day Itinerary: Highlights of Quito & the Highlands
Day 1 – Arrival in Quito
- Arrive, settle in, and take it easy to adjust to the altitude.
- Evening stroll in the historic center.
Day 2 – Quito Historic Center & Teleférico
- Explore colonial Quito (Plaza Grande, La Compañía, San Francisco).
- Afternoon ride on the cable car -Teleférico for panoramic views of Quito and its surroundings.
Day 3 – Day Trip to Otavalo
- Visit Otavalo Market, Peguche Waterfall, and Cuicocha Lake.
- Return to Quito in the evening.
Day 4 – Cotopaxi National Park
- Visit Limpiopungo Lake and hike toward the refuge.
- Overnight in a nearby hacienda..
Day 5 – Quilotoa Lake
- Hike down to the crater lake or hike part of the rim trail.
- Return to Latacunga or continue to Baños if time allows.
Day 6 – Baños de Agua Santa (Optional)
- Adventure activities: waterfalls, zipline, hot springs.
- If skipping Baños, use this day for a relaxing soak in Papallacta.
Day 7 – Return to Quito & Departure
- Last-minute shopping in Quito or a visit to Mitad del Mundo.
- Transfer to airport.
Family-Friendly Itinerary (6 Days)
Day 1 – Quito (city + TelefériQo).
Day 2 – Day trip to Mitad del Mundo + Pululahua.
Day 3 – Otavalo (short visit to market + waterfall)
Day 4 – Papallacta hot springs (easy, relaxing).
Day 5- Cotopaxi (Lake only, avoid strenuous hikes).
Day 6 Transfer to Quito airport
